Château Qanafar recently organized a Valentine’s Day wine tasting at Rosa Maria’s Concept in Mar Mikhael, an art gallery owned by renowned jeweller Rosy Abouross. The gallery showcases paintings & drawings, sculptures and jewellery among others.
Over eight hundred people were invited to attend the event, including restaurant owners and managers, artists, friends and general wine lovers. The event was a brilliant success, largely due to a cosy ambience created at the gallery by the guests coupled with the heart-warming wines of Château Qanafar. Among the wines offered were Château Qanafar’s flagship Château 2009 and the Paradis 2008. Both were highly acclaimed but the Château was particularly coveted.
Château Qanafar, located at the foothills of the Barouk Mountain in the West Bekaa, is one of Lebanon’s newest wineries and is owned and managed by the Naim family. All of the 15 hectares under vine cultivation are owned or managed by the family, highlighting a basic principle by which the family operates: great wine begins in the vineyard, and the role of the winemaker is to conserve – rather than create – the flavors and aromas created by nature.
The winery’s current capacity is around 1,250 cases (15,000 bottles) per annum, but upon completion of the new winery building in the heart of its mountain vineyards at 1200 m, the capacity will increase to 150,000 bottles. The family aims to keep production low in order to focus on quality, a goal not at all out of reach with Lebanon’s well suited weather and topography.
